Intel announces Hewitt Lake soc and fpga module for 5gg
Intel has announced new Xeon D-socs of the Hewitt Lake generation. The chips are intended for network equipment, among other things. In addition, the company comes with the Programmable Acceleration Card N3000 for 5g.
Hewitt Lake is a new generation of soc that should combine energy efficiency with higher clock speeds than the current Xeon D 1500 chips. The system-on-a-chips are intended for network devices, security hardware and storage systems, Intel announced without further details. For example, the exact release date is unknown.
Intel will also announce the N3000 during Mobile World Congress. This is a programmable accelerator in a pci-e card with 9GB ddr4 and 144MB qdr IV sram. The card should relieve CPUs in infrastructure for 5G and could handle up to 100Gbit/s. The fpga card should be released in the third quarter.
Devices with Intel’s XMM 8160 5g modem should appear in early 2020, including m2 modules from Fibocom.
