Intel and Microsoft pledge to continue supporting Huawei laptops

Microsoft will continue to provide customers with Huawei laptops with Windows updates, the company confirms. It does this after a lack of clarity arose about this due to the American trade boycott. Intel also continues to provide security updates to Huawei.

After examining the US trade boycott, Microsoft has come to the conclusion that it may continue to provide software updates to users of Huawei devices, the company reports to PC World. Microsoft did not clarify the exact implications of this, but users of Huawei laptops seem to continue to receive security updates, according to the statements. Last week, Huawei itself already announced in a faq that customers will also continue to receive Windows upgrades. Intel also confirms to PC World that it will continue to offer drivers and security updates for Huawei products with Intel chips.

The support only applies to Huawei PCs that have already been sold. For new laptops, the consequence of the US trade ban remains that they cannot get Intel processors or run Windows – at least Intel no longer supplies the chips to Huawei, and Microsoft no longer offers Windows licenses. For this reason, Huawei has recently had to cancel the introduction of a new laptop in its Matebook series.
