Intel Alder Lake laptop processor with 14 cores and 20 threads appears online
An Intel Alder Lake-P processor for laptops has appeared. The CPU surfaced in Geekbench and, according to that benchmark, has 14 cores and 20 threads. The processor will use a design with several fast and energy-efficient cores.
Presumably, this Alder Lake-P laptop chip, which was spotted by VideoCardz and Twitter user Benchleaks, has six powerful cores with hyperthreading and eight power-efficient cores without hyperthreading. This brings the total to the aforementioned 14 cores and 20 threads. According to the Geekbench results, the CPU achieves a turbo frequency of 4.70GHz. However, it is not clear which type of core achieved this clock speed during the benchmark. Geekbench also reports that the CPU ran at an average clock speed of 4.27GHz. The chip also has 24MB L3 cache and an integrated Xe GPU with 96 execution units at 1.15GHz.
Intel confirmed earlier this year that Alder Lake uses a so-called big. Little configuration. In addition, the CPUs are provided with two different architectures on one chip, with both fast and efficient cores. Such configurations have long been used in socs for smartphones and tablets. Intel introduced all of its Lakefield CPUs for laptops and tablets last year, with one ‘big’ Sunny Cove core and four ‘small’ Tremont cores.
An Alder Lake-S desktop processor already appeared in the Geekbench database, VideoCardz also writes. That desktop chip has 16 cores and 24 threads, according to Geekbench, which equates to eight ‘large’ cores with hyperthreading and eight ‘small’ cores without hyperthreading. Intel will release its first Alder Lake processors in the second half of 2021. It is not clear whether the laptop and desktop chips in this series will appear at the same time. The CPUs will be made at 10nm and, according to previous rumors, will support DDR5 and possibly PCIe 5.0 as well, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.
