Instapaper is working on file recovery after being offline for 31 hours
Instapaper, a service that allows users to save online articles and read them back later, is recovering files after a power outage. The service was unavailable for 31 hours and says it will take about a week to fully restore all files.
Instapaper reports on its own website that it expects to have the database restored by February 17 at the latest. In order to get back online as soon as possible, the company made the decision to only restore items saved by users in the past six weeks. All articles saved before December 20 are currently inaccessible.
In an earlier post, Instapaper said the issues were related to “the maximum storage capacity at the cloud provider had been reached.” The organization does not disclose the identity of the provider. By reaching the limit, the service had to move all data to a new database. The company makes no mention of data loss.
The company has changed hands several times. In 2013, Instapaper was bought by Betaworks, which also includes Digg. Last year, the organization was bought again for an undisclosed amount, this time by Pinterest.
