Instapaper is available again in EU and Premium subscription returns
Instapaper has made its service available again to European users. After the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation on May 25, Europeans were shut down because the company was unable to comply with privacy legislation.
The service says in a blog that adjustments have been made in the past two months to comply with the regulations. Instapaper has a new privacy policy and will now publish both old and new versions of the document on GitHub.
At the same time, Instapaper announces the return of the paid Premium subscription. This allows users, among other things, to fully search the text of their saved articles, add an unlimited number of notes and see no advertisements on the website. The subscription costs 3.50 euros per month or 30 euros per year. The service offers European users who have taken out a six-month paid subscription for free.
When Instapaper banned European users from accessing the service in May, the company was still owned by Pinterest. In July, Instapaper got back on its own feet and returned to its original owner. When the service was part of Pinterest, most of the features were free, but the paid subscription is required to survive on its own, the company says.
Instapaper is a service that allows users to save articles to read later on a device of their choice. There is an app for Android and iOS and integration with Kindle e-readers.
