Instagram is testing disabling read receipts in DMs

Instagram is working on disabling read receipts in DMs. Now it still says under sent messages that they have been seen by conversation partners. It’s not clear when the feature should come to users.

Both Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and head of Instagram Adam Mosseri announced in their Instagram broadcast channel that the feature is coming. The feature is now being tested, but there is no word on when the feature will become widely available. Meta-platform WhatsApp has supported the option to disable read receipts for years. It is not clear whether the feature will also come to Messenger later.
