Instagram gets video calling feature
Instagram is getting a video calling feature. Users can have one-on-one conversations, or have a video chat in a small group. The image can be made small so that the user can continue browsing on Instagram.
The video calling feature is currently running as a test for some users, but will be available globally “soon”, The Verge reports. The arrival of the feature coincides with a redesign of the Explore page in the app. From now on, it should better reflect what users are interested in.
Video calls can be started from a private message in Instagram, by clicking on the camera icon. It is possible to have a video call with several people, but the maximum number of participants is not yet known. In an example, Instagram shows a conversation with four people.
The arrival of video calling to Instagram was expected, indications to the function in the Android version of the app already appeared in March.
