Instagram allows sending DMs via desktop

On Instagram, users are given the option to send private messages via the web browser. Previously, sending a direct message was only possible via the mobile applications of the social medium.

Expanding the ability to send private messages to other users became announced via a short Twitter message. Sending direct messages, or DMs, is now made possible via the web, eliminating the need to do this via the mobile applications.

The web version of DMs will be available worldwide immediately; the rollout started Friday. However, it may take some time for all users to be able to send private messages to other Instagram users over the web. Incidentally, the arrival of web DMs had been expected for some time as Instagram was testing the functionality.
