The Inspectorate SZW, formerly known as the Labor Inspectorate, has issued an official warning to iPhone repairman Pegatron. The company is requested, among other things, to ‘take structural measures to combat heat and high humidity in the workplace’.

Pegatron also has to implement ‘ergonomic adjustments’ on the work floor. The SZW Inspectorate has assigned this to the branch of the Asian company Pegatron in Breda, the regional newspaper BN/De Stem reported.

The official warning to Pegatron follows shortly after reports appeared that the working conditions at the iPhone repairman were ‘degrading’ according to the trade union FNV. Workers would have passed out due to the heat and lack of oxygen in the workspace and there would be a culture of fear. Also, people who do not work overtime or who complain would be fired.

According to the inspection service, the management of Pegatron is ‘very shocked’ about the reporting. The company is said to have commissioned four cooling installations and, among other things, desk heights would be adjusted. The Inspectorate SZW says it will continue to monitor the company and also states that any abuses can be reported via the FNV, the works council or the inspectorate.
