Inspection body shows suspected 5g variant Xiaomi Mi 9 with larger battery
At the Chinese inspection body Tenaa are details of a Xiaomi smartphone with a 5G modem. The appearance and many specifications correspond to the Mi 9, which makes it seem to be a 5g variant of that device.
The listing shows that the device will have a soc with a speed of 2.96GHz. That is also the speed of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 Plus. There will be versions with 6, 8 and 12GB of RAM and 128, 256 or 512GB of flash storage. The battery capacity is 4000mAh, a lot more than the 3300mAh of the Xiaomi Mi 9. The new device supports fast charging with 45W, with the regular Mi 9 that is 27W.
Partly due to the larger battery, the new device is somewhat thicker and heavier. Furthermore, the dimensions are no different; the size of the screen is also the same, but the resolution of the new variant may be higher. There are three cameras on the back, just like the Mi 9. There will be variants with more RAM and storage space, up to a maximum of 12GB of RAM and 512GB of flash storage.
According to GSMArena, the 5G device will be called Xiaomi Mi 9S and the phone will be released in China on September 20. The regular Xiaomi Mi 9 is on sale in the Benelux, but the 5g model will probably not appear here due to the lack of 5g networks. Xiaomi already released a 5G variant of its Mi Mix 3 earlier this year.
