Innolux shows curved OLED screen for smartwatch
The Taiwanese screen manufacturer Innolux has shown a curved OLED screen for smartwatches. Thanks to the bend, a watch can follow the curvature of the wrist, according to the manufacturer. Innolux also comes with a new screen for sports watches.
The curved OLED screen has a diagonal of 1.39 “and a resolution of 400×400 pixels, claims Innolux. The manufacturer makes it with an ltps process. Innolux says it is working on multiple bendable screens for wearables and will show them in the future. It is unknown in which smartwatches the bendable OLED screen will end up.
It is not the first curved OLED display for wearables. Samsung released the Gear Fit a few years ago, a fitness tracker with a curved OLED screen. Since then, several such products have appeared. Until now, the OLED screens for smartwatches have been flat.
In addition to the curved OLED screen, Innolux also presents a 1.19″ LCD with 240×240 pixels. This is a high reflective memory display. This is the kind of screen that was also found in the Pebble watches. That screen reflects light and has so no need for a backlight, and it also requires minimal power when refreshing, which further reduces power consumption.Innolux will show the new products at Touch Taiwan Display International, which will take place next week in Taiwan.
