Ingress is getting an animated series on Netflix in October

From the game Ingress, which works in a similar way to Pokémon Go, comes an animated series that will be broadcast in October. The series will be called Ingress: The Animation and will be available on Netflix.

The founder of Niantic, the creator of both Ingress and Pokémon Go, made this known in a conversation with Variety. The animated series revolves around the two main characters Makoto and Sarah, who are influenced by an “exotic substance” that has mysteriously come from somewhere. Matter gives those affected by it special powers. It is not entirely clear how the story is put together, but Variety does call the third protagonist Jack, from which the other two would be on the run.

Eventually, Makoto and Sarah get involved in the fight between the Resistance and the Enlightened, which is what the game version of Ingress is all about, where players can join either side to conquer portals.

The content of the animated series will also make an appearance in a modified version of the game. Under the name Ingress Prime, Niantic wants to introduce the new content, and that should happen at about the same time as the arrival of the animated series in October. Niantic had already announced the arrival of Ingress Prime last year.
