ING will stop banking app for Windows 10 Mobile in mid-April

ING will stop supporting its mobile payment app with Windows smartphones on April 16. It is then no longer possible to use the app. ING says it will stop because the operating system no longer receives updates.

ING informs customers of the change by letter, according to a topic on the bank’s forum. ING has also put a page online with a statement. The bank writes in it that Microsoft has “stopped supporting the software for the Windows Phone” and that there will be no more current security updates. ING indicates this as a reason to stop using the app. Customers are advised to switch to Android or iOS.

By the way, Microsoft will continue to provide support for Windows 10 Mobile until June 11, 2019. ING only talks about Windows Phone, but the bank has one app for smartphones with Windows, so the version for Windows 10 Mobile will no longer work as of April 16.

It is no surprise that ING is ending support for the app for Windows smartphones. The bank thus follows the other major banks. At the end of last year, Rabobank announced that it would stop using its Windows Phone app. ABN Amro and SNS Bank did this earlier in the same year. ING stated last year in a tweet that the app would be supported until the end of 2017 and no longer after that.
