ING starts phasing out tan codes in favor of confirmation in bank app
ING has announced that in the coming months it will switch its customers to confirm payment orders via the mobile app. At the end of the year, he wants to present an alternative for people who still use tan codes.
The bank’s announcement is part of a revamp of its ‘My ING’ environment. As a result of the change, confirmation via a tan code sent by SMS will be phased out during this year. This also applies to the tan codes on paper. People who can’t use the app will be able to use these capabilities until the end of this year. After that, the bank says it will come up with an alternative for this group of users. For all customers with the mobile banking app, the change means they move to mobile confirmation.
This will first be done with private customers, followed by business users in March. They will also have to deal with the new online environment later on. ING reports that 3.2 million customers now use its app and that 3.5 million customers use internet banking. The number of customers already using mobile confirmation is 1.1 million. The introduction of the tan code on a paper list happened more than thirty years ago with the availability of Girotel.
