ING lets iPhone users send payment requests via iMessage
ING has released an application for Apple’s chat application iMessage that allows bank customers to send payment requests to contacts. The function works on iPhones and iPads with iOS 10, up to an amount of 99 euros.
To activate the function, users must download the ING Banking app from the App Store for iMessage. The most recent version of the ING Mobile Banking app must also be installed on the device in order to activate the function. Once that is done, users no longer need to open the app or log in to make payment requests.
Payment requests for amounts from 1 to 99 euros can be made within iMessage. Recipients will be given a link to follow to complete the payment. The function is comparable to Tikkie from ABN Amro; that is a standalone app that allows users to send payment requests to other users of that app or to contacts in WhatsApp. It was already possible to send and share payment requests from the ING Mobile Banking app.
With the arrival of iOS 10, Apple has made it possible for developers to create iMessage apps for the Messages app. ING has used this for the integration of payment requests in iMessage.
