Use of the Mobile Payment App is free for the first six months, after which ING charges 50 cents per month. Use remains free for students. ING announced this. It is not known when the bank will officially roll out the service.
The bank will start a test on Thursday for users of smartphones that run Android 4.4 or later and that have NFC support. Users must have an activated Mobile Banking App and they must install the new Mobile Payments App. The beta is free for testers, but the bank warns that the app may still be unstable “which means that transactions cannot be completed in all cases.”
ING previously only held tests with a few older Samsung models. For purchases up to and including 25 euros, you can choose to pay with or without a pin code. For higher amounts, a pin code is required.
