Indonesia blocks more than a million porn sites

Indonesian authorities have blocked access to more than a million porn sites. The blockade was put in place in the context of Ramadan, but it is possible that it will be maintained after that.

Speaking to The Times of India, the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Information know that even more porn sites will be blocked during Ramadan, which started in Indonesia on Thursday. The authorities also said that it is still uncertain whether the porn sites in question will be accessible again after Ramadan.

It is unknown how many porn sites will be blocked, but authorities hope the public will help the government stop online porn. The Ministry of Communications and Information believes there are “about 2 billion” porn sites worldwide.

It is not the first time that Indonesia has been in the news because of the blockade of internet porn. Earlier, the Indonesian government tried to oblige RIM to ban porn on BlackBerrys. The Canadian manufacturer has now complied with this wish. India is also in the process of blocking access to pornography via the internet.
