Independent developer creates official Apple Watch app for Spotify
An independent developer creates the Apple Watch app for Spotify. The developer had already started the app without permission from the streaming service, but after a conflict, the developer and the company decided to work together.
It is still unknown when the update for the Spotify app with the functionality for the Apple Watch will be released. The developer of the app, first called Spotty and then Snowy, says in an update on Reddit that he is “thrilled” to work with the tools and knowledge of the people at Spotify. When the time comes, Snowy will not appear as a separate app, as Apple Watch apps are parts of companion iOS apps.
The developer, Andrew Chang, initially created the app under the name Spotty, but got into trouble with Spotify’s legal department. After Chang changed the name to Snowy, Spotify was allowed to continue.
Spotify does not have its own app for the Apple Watch, although users of the watch can perform basic tasks such as playing, pausing and switching tracks via the smartwatch’s built-in music player.
