In addition to Nokia smartphones, HMD Global will make devices under its own brand name
Nokia licensee HMD Global will also produce smartphones under its own brand name. The two smartphone brands will continue to coexist. No actual smartphones have been unveiled yet or further details about the devices have been revealed.
The Finnish HMD Global is joining in their own words focus on sustainability and cheaper devices, which is in line with the direction Nokia has been heading in recent years. The company has had the licensing rights to Nokia smartphones since 2016 and, thanks to owner Terry Gou, has close ties with Taiwan’s Foxconn. Gou is also the founder of that tech company. Foxconn currently produces Nokia smartphones, so HMD devices will probably also be produced by the Taiwanese manufacturer.
