Imgur sells itself to MediaLab
Imgur has sold itself to the American MediaLab, a holding company for internet brands. It is unknown what the picture site got. Imgur has been around since 2009 and has been independent ever since.
The same team will continue to work on Imgur and MediaLab would invest more money in new features for the platform, Imgur reports. This is how the company hopes to grow Imgur in the coming years. According to Imgur, it is now possible because they have shared services between all brands that allow to put more time and money into Imgur itself.
It is unknown what MediaLab will pay for the acquisition of Imgur. Given the company’s wording, the acquisition appears to have already been finalized. MediaLab is a company that buys up internet brands. This includes relatively unknown names such as Whisper, Kik, Animo and Genius. MediaLab is located in Santa Monica, USA. Imgur is in San Francisco.
