Images show bezel controls of Gear circular smartwatch
A newly released SDK for Tizen OS for wearables indicates that the new Samsung Gear smartwatch will have a round screen with a resolution of 360×360 pixels. Operation can be done via the edge, by rotating it.
The Tizen SDK includes some details about the interface and specs of the upcoming Gear smartwatch. For example, in addition to the usual swipe method, a new way of operating has been added. The screen edge can be rotated to scroll through lists, zoom in and out, adjust the volume and switch between contacts.
In addition, an image has leaked that appears to reveal the appearance, but it is not clear whether this is the actual design. The screen diagonal of the watch. which Samsung refers to under the heading ‘The Next Gear’, is 1.65 inches and the resolution will be 360×360 pixels, Sammobile concludes from the sdk. The pixel density is therefore 305ppi, higher than with previous Gear watches.
Furthermore, the upcoming wearable will have an accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate monitor, pressure sensor and magnetic sensor. The smartwatch can make connections via WiFi and Bluetooth and there is also support for GPS and 3G. There is no support for infrared and a camera is also missing.
Samsung may announce the new Gear during the IFA fair in Berlin. It will take place in September. The watch will reportedly be called the Gear A, but internally it would be called Project Orbis.
