Images and a video have emerged of what would be the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active, a variant of the Galaxy S8 with a flat screen, large battery and plastic housing. The Active variants in the Galaxy S line have not been released in Europe for a few years.

A Reddit user showed the photos and video, but has since deleted them. He claimed to have the device through a connection within the manufacturer. However, some images showed information that could lead to finding the source of the leak, which is believed to have prompted him to take the footage offline.

Mirrors of the video and photos have appeared. The footage showed a Galaxy S8 variant with thicker bezels and a design focused on durability. For example, it has an impact-resistant housing of polycarbonate and Samsung replaced the glass back with a non-slip type of plastic. The housing is thicker than that of the regular S8 and houses a 4000mAh battery.

The display is a 5.8″ OLED screen with a resolution of 2960×1440 pixels. This is the same screen as the regular S8. The bezels are larger. Judging by the footage, the phone measures 151.4×74.7mm, compared to 148. .9×68.1mm from the regular S8.

Compared to previous Active versions, some elements have disappeared. For example, the screen is now made of glass without a plastic top layer and the programmable Active button has been replaced by the Bixby button that users cannot set themselves. Also, the underwater mode can no longer be found in the software. The specifications are also the same as those of the Galaxy S8.

Samsung has not yet announced the Galaxy S8 Active, although the device has been shown a few times recently when web stores put covers for the device online. In recent years, the Active variant was only available from the American provider AT&T and it seems likely that it will be the case again.
