Image shows unannounced Xiaomi 5X smartphone
A Chinese website has posted an image for an as-yet-unannounced Xiaomi smartphone online. It would be the Xiaomi 5X that will appear in two configurations. Xiaomi is set to announce the phone on July 26.
The image of a poster posted online by MyDrivers shows the back of the Xiaomi 5X in a gold-tone finish. The poster states that the smartphone has a 5.5″ screen and 4GB of memory. The device runs Android 7.1.1 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625-soc. Xiaomi is also going to launch a new version of its Android skin, Miui, on the smartphone. According to leaked screenshots, Miui 9 will include a split-screen mode.
The website also posted a render of the Xiaomi 5X in the article, showing the back of the smartphone, here in black, in more detail. The phone will have a dual camera and a dual flash. The device comes on the market with a starting price of 1999 yuan, which is currently about 258 euros.
According to MyDrivers, there will also be a more expensive model for sale. This model runs on a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 660-soc, contains 6GB of memory and has a storage capacity of 64GB. Also present in this model are the Sony IMX386 and Samsung S5K3M3 camera modules, the same ones Xiaomi used in its Mi 6 smartphone. It is not clear whether the cheaper model will also receive the same camera modules. MyDrivers reports that Xiaomi plans to announce the 5X on July 26.
It was previously speculated that Xiaomi was planning to release a new sub-brand called Lanmi. The Xiaomi X1 would be the first in this series, Gizmochina reported. However, MyDrivers reports that the Xiaomi 5X is the sub-brand’s first smartphone. Lanmi would be a middle ground between the more expensive Mi sub-brand and the cheaper Redmi sub-brand.
