Samsung makes virtual reality glasses that work by clicking a smartphone into them. The glasses would be called Gear VR and have the option to show a camera image of reality, reports Samsung fan site Sammobile. The site also publishes an image.

By showing the camera image, developers can create games that use images from the environment in the game, so that users do not stumble while performing actions, for example. The glasses are based on the same idea as Google Cardboard, but according to SamMobile are more comfortable and better developed.

The VR glasses use the phone’s sensors to track the head, while the smartphone’s screen provides the image, just like with Google Cardboard. The connection to the smartphone would be via USB 3.0, with which only the Note 3 and Galaxy S5 would be compatible; other Galaxy smartphones do not have a USB 3.0 connection.

Samsung would only make the hardware and work with Facebook’s virtual reality maker Oculus to get the software in order. The manufacturer would like to present the glasses at the IFA electronics fair in Berlin at the beginning of September. In recent years, Samsung has always shown a product in a new category, successively the first large smartphone Galaxy Note, Android camera Galaxy Camera and smartwatch Galaxy Gear.

There have been rumors for a long time about the presentation of Samsung glasses at IFA, but almost all those rumors assumed that it would be a derivative of Google Glass.
