Image of successors HTC One M8 appears online
Smartphone insider EVLeaks has posted an image online of the presumed successor to the HTC One M8 and a larger version of it. The devices look different from the One M8. The larger version has a fingerprint scanner.
EVLeaks put the image posted on Twitter alongside renders and photos he leaked from previous HTC devices. The man behind the account, Evan Blass, recently said that previous images of the phone showed a dummy. Blass has rarely, if ever, been wrong. In addition, the hardware of the new phone was in a case that matched that of the One M8 to prevent leaks.
The image shows the smaller version getting a design with the stereo speakers hidden in the front, at the extreme top and bottom. The black border around the screen, a design element that HTC has been using for years, has disappeared. The front camera is centrally located at the top, just like with the recent Desire Eye.
The sides of the device appear to be rounded and made of metal. The render does not show the back of the device. The ‘button’ of the larger version is presumably for a fingerprint scanner. The successor to the One M8 would run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 with 3GB of memory, while the screen would have a size of 5 “with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The larger version, codenamed Hima Ultra, would have a 5.5” screen, something that is possible given the render. The names of the phones would be One M9 and One M9 Plus.
HTC is planning a major event in Barcelona on March 1, prior to the Mobile World Congress telecom fair. The company is expected to present the successor to the One (M8) there.
