Image of Gigabyte Threadripper motherboard with fan on chipset leaks
A teaser image of a still unknown AMD high-end desktop motherboard from Gigabyte has surfaced. The motherboard includes a TR4-like socket and chipset cooling with fan. Perhaps it is a motherboard with TRX40 chipset.
The teaser image, which was leaked via VideoCardz, shows an as-yet-unknown Threadripper motherboard from Gigabyte. It’s not entirely clear what motherboard it is, but VideoCardz says it’s a TRX40 motherboard. The tech website does not provide concrete evidence for this.
The Aorus motherboard appears to have an e-atx form factor. The motherboard has active cooling on the chipset, as with many X570 motherboards. Furthermore, the motherboard has an extensive VRM design that is cooled with large heat fins. Also, eight dimm slots are visible, as well as four full PCI-e slots. There seems to be an extra connector in the bottom right, but it’s hard to see whether it contains six or eight pins. Perhaps this connector is used for power supply to the chipset, but this is of course speculation. It is also possible that this connector is used to provide extra power to the PCI-e slots. The motherboard also seems to contain two to three m2 connections for SSDs. There is little to notice on the CPU socket itself. Maybe AMD is using the same TR4 socket as before.
AMD is rumored to be releasing three different chipsets for AMD’s upcoming Threadripper CPUs: TRX40, TRX80, and WRX80. These chipsets already appeared on the USB Implementers Forum website in August. TRX40 would be the ‘cheaper’ chipset here. It is not yet known whether the upcoming Threadripper 3000 CPUs will work on current X399 motherboards.
According to VideoCardz, AMD will introduce the upcoming Threadripper CPUs on November 5. On this date, more about the possible new hedt chipsets should be known. AMD itself has not yet announced a concrete date for the unveiling.
