Ikea to supply smart power strips
Ikea seems to be supplying smart power strips in its Trådfri series in April next year. A power strip with a single connection and remote control will cost 20 euros, according to images.
A separate power strip without the remote control will be available in the store for 10 euros. That reports a user on Reddit, who took pictures of the product pages that can be consulted in the Ikea store. The power strips are not in stock and the release date is stated as ‘soon’.
However, the German Smarthomeassistant knows to report that the products will appear in April next year. That site also writes that the range of the remote control is about 10 meters and that it can be attached magnetically to metal surfaces.
Up to ten power strips could be connected to the remote control. The power strips themselves do not contain physical buttons. With the included batteries, the remote control should last about two years, according to the specifications.
It is not yet known whether the system is compatible with other platforms. Trådfri is Ikea’s product line for smart home applications. The company also releases smart lighting under that name.
