IKEA starts spreading HomeKit support for smart blinds
Ikea has started rolling out HomeKit support for its smart blinds. The furniture giant had previously postponed support for Apple’s IoT operating system for the Fyrtur and Kadrilj blinds until “early 2020”.
Several users on Reddit, among others, report that they can see the smart curtains in the HomeKit app after an update. It is an update of the Trådfri hub. The HomeKit update is in version 1.10.28. For the time being, the update seems to be rolling out mainly to American users, but users who are on an American VPN server can also receive it, according to their own account.
It was previously known that IKEA would later release the promised support for HomeKit. Initially, it would come out at the same time as the roller blinds themselves, later that was postponed to autumn and even ‘early 2020’. With the support of HomeKit, users can automate their IKEA blinds via their Mac, iPhone or iPad, and control them with voice via Siri. Users could already control the Fyrtur and Kadrilj curtains via the Google Assistant and IKEA’s own Home smart app.
