IKEA announces prizes for table lamp and bookshelf speaker in Symfonisk series
IKEA and Sonos have presented the first two WiFi speakers in the Symfonisk series. It is a table lamp, the lower half of which is formed by a speaker. In addition, there will be a ‘bookshelf speaker’. The table lamp costs 179 euros and the other speaker costs 100 euros.
Both companies have yet to release few technical specifications of the two speaker products. According to the manufacturers, the table lamp is in fact a combination of a Sonos One smart speaker and a lamp. The other speaker can in fact serve as a bookshelf because it can be mounted on a wall, for example. A maximum of 3 kg can then be supported in combination with a bracket, IKEA reports. This bookshelf speaker is equipped with buttons for volume control, play and pause and can be further placed vertically and horizontally.
Both speakers support Apple Airplay 2, but support for voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant are not built-in. A built-in microphone is missing in the two products. The table lamp and bookshelf speaker can optionally be controlled with voice commands via a separately connected Google Home or Amazon Alexa speaker.
Both products are part of the Sonos ecosystem and can, for example, become part of a multi-room setup or serve as the rear speakers of a Sonos Playbar soundbar. The two speakers can be controlled via the Sonos app.
According to The Verge, Sonos has revealed that both speakers are equipped with two digital class D amplifiers, a tweeter and a midwoofer. Both products will be available from August later this year.
