iFixit Shows Inside Steam Deck And Teams Up With Valve For Parts
Repair company iFixit has been the first to take apart the Steam Deck handheld in a teardown video. In addition, iFixit and Valve announce that they will collaborate to offer individual parts for the Steam Deck.
iFixit has been allowed to completely disassemble the Steam Deck from Valve. In an extensive teardown video, repair company iFixit takes the handheld apart and shows the company how to replace the battery or the thumbsticks, for example.
It’s not the first time we’ve been able to peek inside the Steam Deck. Earlier, Valve also posted a video online in which an early version of the handheld is taken apart. This new video shows the version of the Steam Deck that consumers will soon receive. This version was previously featured in teardown videos from Linus Tech Tips and Gamers Nexus.
The video shows, among other things, that printed circuit boards have been given a slightly different color and that Valve has applied many more labels and text. This should make it easier for consumers to make repairs to the Steam Deck. According to iFixit, taking the handheld apart and putting it back together isn’t difficult. Only replacing the battery could have been easier, according to the repair company.
Valve and iFixit also announce that iFixit will become the official retailer of replaceable parts for Valve’s handheld. The two companies have not yet announced which parts you will be able to order later, but write that they will share more details about the collaboration soon.
Valve will begin selling the Steam Deck on February 25. Anyone who has reserved a handheld can then order one. The first handhelds will be shipped from the manufacturer on February 28.
