IDC: 1.2 percent of smartphones delivered are foldable models
About 1.2 percent of smartphones shipped worldwide are foldable phones, analyst firm IDC has calculated. That percentage will probably grow this year due to the large number of foldable models that will be released this year.
The market for foldable smartphones is growing strongly, while the smartphone market shrank, claims IDC. According to the analyst firm, 14.2 million units of foldable phones were sold last year. The company does not break down deliveries by manufacturer.
IDC notes that foldable smartphone prices are falling, but not massively yet. This is preventing higher sales for the time being. There are models of many more brands coming. Many brands announced foldable smartphones at the Mobile World Congress telecom fair. Foldable smartphones have been available for several years, but in the west especially Samsung models are readily available. In other countries, there are foldable phones from Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO and Honor, among others. In any case, a foldable smartphone from OnePlus will arrive later this year and possibly also from realme and Google.
