Id Software removes invasion mode Doom Eternal, but comes with horde mode

Id Software says the corona pandemic and the resulting working from home “had an impact” on the development of the invasion mode, forcing them to work on a horde mode instead.

In the invasion mode, it would have been possible for one or more players to enter the game worlds of other players in the role of one of the many demons known to the game. This way the game can become a bigger and different kind of challenge than it normally would be. Those who play a single player campaign could indicate themselves whether they are open to invasions or not.

Id isn’t revealing much about the horde mode being switched to. The mode should “provide more of the diversity and challenge” that players want. A horde mode often involves players fighting in an arena against increasingly larger and more dangerous ‘waves’ of enemies. If they beat a certain number of waves, they win. However, it also happens that the waves are infinite in number and that it is simply a matter of setting a high score.

The game already has a mode in which players take on the role of the demons. This one is called Battlemode and in it two powerful demons, controlled by players, take on a Doom Slayer who also has many upgrades. The side that wins the most of the five rounds is the winner.

Doom Eternal was released in March of 2020 and has since received two DLCs: The Ancient Gods: Part One and Part Two. Over the course of this DLC, the Doom Slayer story, which began with the 2016 Doom game, will come to an end. , including next-gen upgrades.
