Electronic Arts has announced that NHL 22 will be released on October 15. NHL 22 is the first game in the ice hockey series to run on the Frostbite engine. The game will appear for both the previous and current generation of consoles.

In a announcement informs EA that NHL is making the jump to the next generation of consoles. The game will be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Like the previous parts, the game will not appear for PC, unlike other EA Sports games such as FIFA and Madden NFL.

For the jump to current-gen consoles, NHL 22 now runs on EA’s Frostbite engine. The NHL games of recent years were some of the publisher’s few sports games still running on the Ignite engine. According to EA producer Clement Kwong, “The Frostbite engine allows more realism to be added to the game, which will be noticeable during gameplay.”

In addition to the new engine, the game also gets a new gameplay element. Some star players have been awarded a Superstar X-Factor. The best players in the game can therefore do a little more than the rest, such as special actions to keep a puck out of the goal, for example.
