IBM presents webmail service LotusLive iNotes
IBM is launching its own webmail service to compete with Microsoft and Google in software as a service. Users receive 1GB of storage space and, in addition to e-mail, have access to a calendar and an instant messaging service.
IBM is launching its own webmail service conflict with services such as Google Apps and Microsoft Exchange Online. The service is called LotusLive iNotes and, in addition to a mail application, also contains a calendar and an instant messaging service with which files can also be sent.
It therefore has less functionality than Google Apps, which also includes an online text and spreadsheet editor. However, the IBM service is cheaper: when paid per month, it costs $45 per user per year; if paid per year, that drops to $36. Google Apps costs $50 per year per user. Microsoft also has a subscription that costs $36 per year with the ‘deskless worker’ option. LotusLive iNotes technology is provided by Outblaze.
