Hyundai will supply hydrogen fuel cell systems to Iveco for European buses
Iveco will make hydrogen buses using Hyundai’s HTWO brand hydrogen cell systems. In any case, the buses must start driving in Europe. Iveco says it is participating in several tenders to be able to drive hydrogen buses.
HTWO is already supplying the hydrogen cell installations for the Hyundai Xcient hydrogen truck and the NEXO hydrogen car. The company wants to expand to other sectors, including public transport. That is why HTWO and Iveco have entered into an agreement.
The two companies don’t share many details about the agreement; for example, no numbers or technical specifications are mentioned. Iveco also does not yet say to which public transport companies it will supply the hydrogen buses. The Italian company says it will use the technologies and qualities of both companies for innovation that Italian public transport urgently needs.
Tweakers previously wrote a background article about making Dutch buses more sustainable. Dutch transport companies now expect to mainly use battery-electric buses, although hydrogen buses are not yet immediately ruled out. Hydrogen buses are already in operation in some Dutch regions. Iveco does not yet have a hydrogen bus, but with the E-WAY it does have a battery-electric bus.
