Hyundai will market three electric cars under the Ioniq brand in the next four years. The first will be the Ioniq 5, a crossover SUV that should be released in early 2021. Then a sedan and a larger SUV follow.

Hyundai builds the three Ioniq cars on its Electric Global Modular Platform, or E-GMP, with which it offers support for fast charging, among other things. In addition, the manufacturer wants to distinguish itself with wireless connectivity.

The Ioniq 5, which will be released in early 2021, is a further development of the ’45’, an electric concept car that Hyundai showed at last year’s International Motor Show in Frankfurt. In 2022, the Ioniq 6, a sedan based on the ‘Prophecy’ concept car that the company unveiled in March, will appear. At the beginning of 2024, the Ioniq 7 should be on the market and this will be a larger electric SUV. More introductions will follow, using even numbers for sedans and odd numbers for SUVs.

Hyundai has been using the Ioniq name since 2016 for a model that is available as a fully electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid. This car is the result of a sustainable driving project of the same name that Hyundai initiated before the introduction of that vehicle.
