Hyundai has presented the Ioniq 5, a fully electric crossover with a 58kWh or 73kWh battery. Buyers can choose from rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. The top model with a number of options costs 58,995 euros including VAT. Delivery will start in summer 2021.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is available in four versions, with a choice between the two batteries and the drive. In its cheapest form, with rear-wheel drive and the 58kWh battery, the Ioniq 5 has 125kW or 170hp and 350Nm. From zero to one hundred kilometers per hour is then reached in 8.5 seconds. The sportiest version is the one with four-wheel drive and the 73 kWh battery. Then the two engines combined deliver a maximum of 225kW or 306hp and 605Nm. Then the 0-100 km/h sprint is over in 5.2 seconds. The top speed is 185 km/h on all models.

Hyundai only gives a preliminary WLTP range for the version with 73 kWh battery and rear-wheel drive. It is lighter than the Ioniq 5 with four-wheel drive and therefore has a greater range. In this version, a driver can drive a maximum of 470km to 480km. Hyundai will provide more information about the other versions later.

The Ioniq 5 has an 800V battery system that also works with 400V chargers. With an 800V battery, a car can be charged with a maximum of 350kW. With such a charger, the car should be able to charge from 10 to 80 percent of the battery capacity in 18 minutes. With 5 minutes of charging, the car can travel 100 kilometers. The EV also has support for v2l, allowing the car to deliver back through a 3.6kW port. This can be used, for example, to charge electric bicycles or camping equipment, writes Hyundai. The Ioniq has v2l ports under the second row of seats and on the outside at the charging connection.

Inside, the Ioniq 5 has two 12″ screens for the instruments and infotainment. The hatchback is also the first Hyundai with AR head-up display. The Ioniq 5 also has driver assistance systems such as collision warning systems and a high beam assistant. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is 4,650 meters long, 1,890 meters wide and 1,605 meters high. The wheelbase is 3 meters long and the rims are 20 inches.

Hyundai does not yet provide an entry-level price for the Ioniq 5. The manufacturer does announce the Ioniq 5 Project 45, a special version of the Ioniq 5 with all selected options. This includes a roof with solar panels. As far as is known, this concerns the model with the 73 kWh battery and four-wheel drive. The Project 45 costs 58,995 euros and can be ordered immediately.

The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s first car on the Electric Global Modular Platform. Hyundai will also use this platform for the two upcoming Ioniq models. The sedan Ioniq 6 will follow next year, two years after that the suv Ioniq 7. Hyundai expects that with E-GMP a range of more than 500 km is possible.
