Hyundai and Kia both say they are not in talks with Apple about making electric cars. Those conversations did take place, but have now been paused. It is unknown if the deal will come later.

According to Reuters, parent company Hyundai and subsidiary Kia only say that there are no talks, but the companies say nothing further. Bloomberg reported before the weekend that the companies were no longer negotiating. A deal would have almost been there.

According to the most recent rumor, Apple would like to produce about 100,000 cars a year with Kia and Hyundai from 2024 at a factory in the US state of Georgia. Apple would take care of the software and design. It would be an electric, autonomous car.

The rumors that Apple might want to make a car are not new. Apple already confirmed a few years ago that it was working on software for autonomous cars. With the collaboration, the company would also like to make the hardware. The car would mainly be aimed at applications such as meal and parcel delivery, things that would not require a driver in the long run.
