Husqvarna has announced the Automower 435X AWD, a robotic lawn mower that can be controlled with Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant. Users can also set up programs via ifttt or the open api.

Voice control via a speaker with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant is available in addition to the regular control via the Automower Connect app from Husqvarna. Users can integrate programs for the lawn mowing robot into their smart home routine via the open api and ifttt, but there is also support for the Gardena SmartSystem. This is a platform from Gardena, with which various garden applications can be managed via an app, including irrigation.

The Automower 435X AWD has LED headlights and GPS tracking in case the mower is stolen. In addition, there is the Ultrasonic function, which causes the vehicle to reduce its speed when it detects objects in the vicinity. Another security feature is that the device will stop automatically if the user picks it up or turns it over. The mower is four-wheel drive and can therefore handle slopes of up to seventy percent. The sound production is 62dB. The battery life or capacity is unknown, but Husqvarna’s Automowers automatically return to the charger when the battery capacity is low.

The Automower 435X AWD is not cheap; the suggested retail price is 4999 euros. Robotic lawnmower manufacturers, like those for robotic vacuum cleaners, are increasingly integrating their devices into existing smart home platforms. In January, competitor iRobot announced an autonomously functioning lawn mower. LG already showed a lawn mowing robot with Alexa and Assistant support during CES and later events, but as far as we know it is not yet for sale.
