AM General, the maker of Humvee’s for the US military, has sued publisher Activision for using the vehicles in its Call of Duty games. According to the manufacturer, the publisher does not have permission for this.

The use of Humvee’s likenesses in Call of Duty games and merchandise may wrongly believe that AM General has licensed it, the company said in its suit, according to Reuters. The company wants to enforce compensation through the courts. An attempt was made for a year to reach a solution through talks, but that was unsuccessful.

The latest Call of Duty game has no Humvee’s, because that game takes place during World War II, when the vehicles did not yet exist. The cars can be found in many other games in the series. Activision tells Reuters it is not responding to pending lawsuits.

Humvee, or Hmmwv, stands for High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. AM General has been supplying these vehicles to the US military since 1985. The company also made the Hummer vehicles, including a consumer variant, but production of those cars has stopped since 2010.
