Humble Indie Bundle 3 raises $2.17 million
Humble Indie Bundle 3 has raised $2.17 million, making it the most successful Bundle to date. Gamers were able to set their own price for the bundle of PC games, which started with five games and has grown to 12 games.
The Humble Indie Bundle 3 promotion kicked off July 26, offering gamers five PC games: Crayon Physics Deluxe, Cogs, VVVVVV, Hammerfight, and And Yet It Moves. All five games run on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, and do not include DRM. Customers can download the games from the Humble website, but can also request keys to download the games via Steam or Desura.
The game package was provided with new games free of charge during the promotion; first a playable version of Minecraft until August 14. Steel Storm and Atom Zombie Smasher followed later. On August 3, the five games from the second bundle were added. Gamers who bought the bundle after this date had to pay at least the average purchase price to also get these games. This amount fluctuated between five and six dollars during the campaign.
As usual with the Humble promotions, buyers can determine the price themselves, as well as which part of the amount goes to the developers and which part goes to the charities Child’s Play and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. In the first 24 hours, the Humble Indie Bundle 3 already made half a million dollars in sales. In its two weeks on sale, the bundle sold 372,363 copies, bringing in $2,167,781.55.
Linux users again proved the most generous, with an average contribution of $12.04, while Mac users paid an average of $7.72 for the bundle. About two-thirds of customers use Windows and pay an average of $4.89.
