Huawei’s foldable 5G smartphone appears to have a single screen design ontwerp
A photo of an advertising canvas has appeared on Twitter, which presumably shows Huawei’s foldable 5G smartphone. The device will be named Mate X and, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold, seems to use a single screen instead of two.
The Twitter account Gimme2pm has an apparently credible photo posted on which workmen are busy putting up a large advertising canvas. It shows some photos of the phone, which would be called the Mate X. The device is described as ‘the world’s fastest foldable 5G phone’.
The photo also shows that the Mate X seems to differ in design from the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy Fold. This phone has a folding 7.28″ screen on the inside, in combination with a 4.58″ screen on the cover on the outside. Mate X appears to have a single screen that folds outwards.
In October last year it became clear that Huawei is working on a foldable smartphone. Huawei director Richard Yu indicated in January that his company will present a 5G smartphone with a folding screen at the Mobile World Congress fair in Barcelona and that this device will get its own HiSilicon Kirin 980 soc. More information may follow on Sunday during the Huawei event in Barcelona.
