Huawei withdraws as main customer data center Zeeland

Huawei has canceled its plans to move into a large new data center to be built in Zeeland because the company is the subject of concerns about its products and services. The construction of the data center is therefore delayed.

Huawei should have become the first major customer of the data center in the Sloe area near Borssele, but the Chinese company has withdrawn. Gerrit Godwaldt of The Green Bay, initiator of the data center, tells PZC that the reason is that companies have become more hesitant to purchase cloud services from Huawei.

This is probably because Huawei has been in the news a lot in the past year due to concerns about its ties with the Chinese government. For this reason, the company is partially or not at all barred from the construction of 5G networks in various countries.

Now that Huawei has disappeared, the construction of the data center has been seriously delayed. The Green Bay is looking for other potential clients before construction can continue. The general manager is not yet able to say when construction can resume. In May last year it was announced that a data center in Zeeland would be built with Huawei as its main customer.
