Huawei wants to roll out ‘5G network’ in Russia for 2018 FIFA World Cup
Huawei wants to offer 5g in Russia in collaboration with provider MegaFon. The network technology should be fully functional if the 2018 FIFA World Cup is to be held in the country.
Football fans should be able to use the ‘5G functionality’ in 2018 that the Chinese company wants to deliver in collaboration with MegaFon, Huawei reports. The FIFA World Cup has eleven host cities and more than a million foreigners are expected to visit the event in Russia, which should provide extensive coverage.
At the beginning of 2014, it was reported by Huawei that providers will only be able to offer 5G via the mobile networks from 2020 onwards. Huawei now seems to be pushing this forward for at least two years in Russia. Huawei announced in March that it had achieved a speed of 115Gbit/s with the technology that the group wants to use for 5G networks. Several telecom companies are trying to advance their techniques in the hope that this will become the standard for 5g.
There is no such standard yet, but there are various developments. For example, Europe recently sought cooperation with South Korea to accelerate the development of 5G. As described earlier, introducing a new network technology is a time consuming process. In addition to testing, approving standards and finding suitable frequencies, there must be devices that support the innovation.
