Huawei wants to continue to sell smartphones in the US despite accusations
Huawei has expressed its intention to maintain a presence in the US smartphone market, despite authorities suspecting the company of spying for the Chinese government. Despite this, the new top model P20 Pro will not be released in the US.
In a statement sent to Cnet, Huawei CEO Richard Yu, who works as head of the Consumer Business arm, said his company wants to remain active in the US smartphone market and will try to win the trust of US customers. According to Yu, Huawei would not betray the trust of customers.
Yu also addressed US intelligence allegations that Huawei is being used by Chinese authorities to spy on Americans. The CEO calls those allegations unfounded and unfair. He also says he is open to a discussion about Huawei’s activities, as long as that discussion is conducted honestly and based on facts.
Despite Yu’s statements, his company does not release the new top model, the P20 Pro, on the American market. The CEO also did not elaborate on his strategy to expand US market share, other than that the company will try to win the trust of the Americans.
According to Yu, about 1,000 people currently work for Huawei in the United States. They do this in thirteen offices throughout the country.
