Huawei to release foldable Mate X phone in China on November 15
Huawei is set to release its multiple-delayed Mate X folding screen smartphone on November 15 in China. It is not yet known whether the phone will also be released outside of China. Huawei announced the Mate X in February.
Huawei has reported the arrival of the Mate X on Weibo and announced it at an event in Shenzhen. A Huawei spokesperson tells CNet that the device will be available for prices starting with 16,999 yuan and that is currently converted around 2160 euros. This is the version with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
There is still a plan to release the device worldwide and at least outside of China, but the manufacturer is still looking at that. Huawei says its strategy is based on 5G; the Mate X supports 5g via the HiSilicon Balong 5000 modem. The phone has the same Kirin 980-soc as many high-end smartphones from Huawei and Honor last year.
The screen diagonal of the Mate X comes out at 8″ when unfolded. This makes the screen diagonal slightly larger than the 7.3″ Samsung Galaxy Fold and the 7.8″ of the FlexPai. An important difference compared to the Galaxy Fold is that the Huawei Mate X, like the FlexPai, has the screen on the outside when you bend it.
Huawei announced this foldable combination of a smartphone and a tablet in February, with the manufacturer mentioned a suggested retail price of 2299 euros. The device should have been released in June, but that was postponed to September to allow additional testing. Huawei announced in August that that month would also not be met, but that the phone would still appear this year.
