Huawei to lay off hundreds of people in US after trade restrictions
Huawei plans to cut hundreds of jobs in the United States. The layoffs would fall at subsidiary Futurewei, which does research and development for Huawei. The layoffs are said to be related to restrictions imposed on Huawei.
The Chinese manufacturer has not released the news itself, but sources report to the usually well-informed The Wall Street Journal that hundreds of jobs may be at risk. The layoffs would mainly fall in the US states of Texas, California and Washington.
Huawei is expected to cut jobs at Futurewei Technologies, a subsidiary primarily engaged in development and research. In total, the subsidiary employs approximately 850 people in the United States. Some of those employees are said to have already been informed that they will be fired, with some being offered the option to return to China.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Huawei is going to lay off employees because it continues to suffer from trade restrictions imposed by President Trump in the United States. These have been partially suspended, but Huawei would still be hindered in its activities.
