Huawei subsidiary Honor promises two years of fast updates on new smartphones
Huawei subsidiary Honor promises customers with new smartphones that they will receive an update with new features every three months for the first year. In addition, support lasts for two years and after that time, devices will still receive security updates.
The promise on updates applies from this year and presumably for devices that the manufacturer has released this year. The updates must also arrive ‘on time’ on smartphones, promises Huawei’s Taylor Wimberley on Google+.
The manufacturer makes the promise shortly after the release of the Honor 8 in the United States, the first time that Huawei will release a flagship of that brand in that country. Honor promises in the first year an update with new features for devices at least every three months. However, the wording about the two-year support is not exact. Wimberley speaks of ‘up to 24 months’, which translates as ‘up to 24 months’.
The duration of support for Android smartphones remains a pain point, despite many promises of improvement. Where Apple supports iPhones for three to four years with updates and Microsoft Lumias have also been provided with updates for a long time, most more expensive Android devices remain stuck at one and a half to two years. With cheaper devices, the support is often shorter.
