Huawei subsidiary Honor announces first smartphone with f/1.4 camera lens
Huawei subsidiary Honor has announced the Honor 20 and 20 Pro at its own event. The latter is the first smartphone on the market with a camera that has a lens with an f/1.4 aperture. The phones also have a camera for macro recordings.
The primary camera of the Honor 20 Pro is Sony’s IMX586, a 48-megapixel sensor with 0.8 micron pixels. That has been in many more smartphones in recent months. The aperture of the Honor 20 Pro is larger than usual, at f/1.4. Samsung uses an f/1.5 lens for night photography on its high-end phones, other phones have f/1.6 or lower lenses. The lens should provide ‘extremely clear’ photos, claims Huawei’s subsidiary.
In addition to that primary camera, there’s an ultra-wide-angle camera on the phone, with a 117-degree angle of view and an f/2.2 lens. There is also a camera with a telephoto lens with a focal length around 80mm in 35mm equivalent. The fourth camera is a ‘macro camera’ that allows focusing at 4cm from an object. Huawei phones can do that with the ultra-wide-angle camera, but the Honor phones don’t seem to have that.
The 20 and 20 Pro have a 96.2cm2 large LCD with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels and a diagonal of 6.26″. There is a hole in the screen for the front camera. The soc is a HiSilicon Kirin 980, which Huawei previously used. in the Honor View 20, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, P30 and P30 Pro.The 20 Pro has a 4000mAh battery and measures 154.6x74mm, with a thickness of 8.4mm and a weight of 182g.A 3.5mm jack is missing. on the phones Honor 20. The 20 Pro costs 600 euros, the Honor 20 499 euros.
The Honor 20 and 20 Pro compete with Honor’s own View 20, which came out in January. Huawei’s own Mate 20 and P30 are also around this price range. This week it became clear that Google has revoked Huawei’s Android license. This also applies to subsidiary Honor. As a result, the manufacturer may not be able to provide the phones with Android upgrades in the future. It became clear on Tuesday that Huawei and Google can work on Android software for another three months.
