Huawei sold 60.5 million smartphones in the first half of 2016
Huawei sold a quarter more smartphones in the first half of 2016 than in the same period in the previous year. Sales over the six-month period totaled 60.5 million units.
Sales increased mainly in Europe, a market where many high-end smartphones are traditionally sold, and in emerging markets such as North Africa, Central Asia and South America. Richard Yu, who leads Huawei’s consumer arm, told Reuters.
Due to the good sales, the turnover of the consumer part of the company increased by 41 percent in the six months to 77.4 billion yuan, or 10.5 billion euros. On Monday, the group already announced that the company’s total turnover had increased by 40 percent to 245.5 billion yuan, converted 33.3 billion euros.
Huawei has become Samsung’s main competitor in Android phones. The two companies are involved in patent matters. Huawei is selling more and more high-end devices, where in the past it mainly sold cheaper smartphones with less profit to be made.
